Day 1 - Thursday 11 June 2026 

 

💼 Morning: ESOS & National Code Seminar (9:00am – 12:30pm)

A comprehensive overview of the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code 2018.
We’ll unpack each Standard, explore common compliance pitfalls, and discuss what good practice looks like across the student lifecycle.
Perfect for staff new to CRICOS or those seeking a structured refresher on provider obligations.

 

 

🧩 Afternoon: ESOS & National Code Case Study Workshop (1:30pm – 4.45pm)

An interactive session using realistic case studies to apply the Standards in practice — from enrolment variations and deferments to monitoring, reporting and student support obligations.
Participants will work through scenarios in small groups to build confidence in decision-making and compliance assurance.

  • Duration: Half-day sessions (3.5 hours each)
  • Catering: Morning tea and refreshments provided.

🏛 Morning: Understanding the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021 (9:00am – 12:30pm)


A practical overview of the HESF (Threshold Standards) 2021, exploring how the Standards link to institutional governance, quality assurance and academic integrity.
We’ll examine key domains, TEQSA expectations, and approaches to mapping evidence to the Standards.

 

📘 Afternoon: Understanding the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (HESA) (1:30pm – 4:45pm)


An in-depth look at the Higher Education Support Act 2003 and related instruments, including obligations under the Higher Education Provider Guidelines, HELP Guidelines, and funding agreements.
This session focuses exclusively on higher education providers and offers practical insights into data, reporting and accountability requirements.

 

Session Details:

Meet the Presenter, Natalie Tierney

Natalie Tierney has been in various compliance and policy roles during her career, with a focus on international education compliance. Natalie has also worked as a Regulatory Officer with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and an Immigration Officer at the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) within the student compliance and student visa branches. Natalie is a member of the TEQSA Register of Experts for the ESOS Framework and the Higher Education Standards Framework. A detailed summary of Natalie’s career can be found on her LinkedIn profile.

Natalie established Capital Review Group in July 2016 to provide specialist compliance consultancy services for various pieces of legislation and regulations within the education sector in Australia. Her clients include Universities, Higher Education providers, VET colleges, Schools and ELICOS providers.
